EAL
EAL and PPS Programmes Supporting English Language at Oak AcademyOak Academy offers two specialised programmes designed to meet the diverse linguistic needs of its international students.
EAL (English as an Additional Language)
The EAL programme is designed for students who are learning English. Lessons, guided by TEFL methodology, focus on developing vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The programme helps students build confidence, engage fully in lessons, and succeed academically.
PPS (Phonetic Proficiency Support)
The PPS programme provides targeted support for international students who already use English regularly, particularly those from Commonwealth nations. While many are fluent speakers, it focuses on enhancing clarity of speech, gently softening regional accents to support mutual understanding, and increasing familiarity with British idioms, expressions, and intonation patterns.
The aim is to strengthen students’ confidence in using British English while fully respecting the legitimacy and richness of their natural speech patterns. This support enables students to adapt more easily to a British school environment and fosters a more inclusive, linguistically responsive atmosphere for all learners.
