Ten students from Oak Academy were given the opportunity to attend the annual Dorset Leadership Conference, at Bryanston School, this week. The event was led by the Dorset School Games team and around 400 students, from schools across Dorset, were in attendance. The event was aimed at allowing students, who have worked hard in their schools, to share their experiences and skills, in a wider setting.
Six Oak Academy students were part of the coaching and leadership team on the day, taking part in various workshops that looked to broaden their horizon in sports leadership. Activities here were led by experienced coaches and former GB Olympic and Commonwealth athletes. Students have now been set a mission, to return to Oak and seek ways to engage other students, to take part in physical activity, as well as traveling to local primary schools and assist with the delivery of extra-curricular clubs.
A further two other students were part of the media team and after developing skills throughout the day, were given a the chance to record and interview key members of the event, on their experiences in sport.
The final two members of the team were part of the dance team, who put together an electrifying performance, which was then delivered to the conference at the end of the day.
As a result of their contributions to the event, all students will be offered the opportunity to be part of the Winter and Summer Dorset School Games events in 2019.
