An Oriental Summer

It’s been a busy summer for our cultural collaboration project!

Run in partnership with the Global Youth Ambassadors Programme, the project aims to develop students’ horizons in the spirit of global partnership. This summer, two further groups of staff and students have visited China. And what an awesome experience they have enjoyed!

Group 1

As we write, our first group are already in transit for their return journey to the UK. They have endured virtually all forms of transport to arrive at Beijing airport but should be back at Oak Academy by 8.30pm Monday 23rd July. They have been lucky enough to see Shanghai v’s Jinan in one of the country’s main football games.  Staff and students have sampled the local cuisine and they have all dressed up in the name of fashion!

Sumayyah, one of star sixth formers, gave Oak Academy’s closing speech in both English and Mandarin, receiving a standing ovation for her efforts – well done, Sumayyah!

They have gained amazing memories and developed further bonds of friendships…we are all very proud and looking forward to the continuation of the project…

Group 2

….which is actually already underway with our second summer group having arrived now in Inner Mongolia.

Students have again travelled by minibus, endured two flights, a trip on a Bullet Train and an overnight sleeper train to get there – talk about commitment!

More details of their visit will be published when they return but we wish them well for another fantastic adventure and a trip of a lifetime.
